Purpose
To improve and record methods of communication with the Practice for all patients with learning disabilities or impairments recognised under the Equality Act (2010), to ensure disabled people are not disadvantaged.
Definition
Reasonable adjustments are changes made to policies, procedures or the environment to enable disabled people to access and participate in services.
Examples
- Adjustments to access: wider doorways, ramps, accessible lifts, accessible toilets.
- Adjustments to communication: Sign language interpreters, large print materials, easy-read information, alternative formats(e.g audio)
- Adjustments to policies: Flexible appointments times, preferential treatment for those with sensory sensitivities, quite waiting areas.
